Case Study: Data Supply Chain – BIM Systems

Client: Confidential Project: Luxury House in North London

Overview
Denaploy partnered with a client specialising in the construction and fit-out of high-end, exclusive homes in North London’s most prestigious areas. We were tasked with creating the O&M manual and user guide for a luxury home built for a well-known television personality who is a devoted Apple enthusiast.

This project demonstrated the increasing complexity of modern luxury homes, which now feature advanced technologies such as underfloor heating, hot tubs, swimming pools, integrated audio/visual systems, cutting-edge security measures, and fire alarm systems. Comprehensive user guides were essential to ensure the homeowner could fully utilise these features, while a detailed O&M guide was required to support effective maintenance and repair.

Challenges and Solutions

  1. Client-Specific File Requirements:
The client required the manuals to be compatible with their existing SharePoint system. SharePoint has a restricted set of allowable characters in file names, necessitating a review and modification of approximately 15% of all links. This ensured seamless integration into their platform.

  2. Cross-Platform Compatibility:
During development, it was discovered that our SharePoint service, while effective for review and collaboration, was unsuitable for the end user’s Mac operating system. We explored delivering the manual on an Android tablet, overcoming the complexities of Unix-style operating system links. However, the optimal solution was converting the manuals into standard HTML websites, enabling compatibility with Mac and iPad devices.

  3. Digital Navigation and Accessibility:
All manuals were designed as digital documents with website-like navigation. Users could click links to access related documents and search for specific information within the files, ensuring an intuitive experience.

Deliverables

  • A comprehensive user guide featuring detailed instructions, photographs, and supporting materials to help the homeowner control every system and gadget within the house.

  • A robust O&M manual containing technical details for future maintenance and repairs.

  • Fully tested and optimised digital documentation delivered in HTML format, ensuring compatibility across platforms.

Key Outcomes This project reinforced the evolving nature of modern homes, which are increasingly integrated with complex systems requiring precise documentation for effective usage and maintenance. By addressing compatibility challenges and ensuring user-friendly delivery, Denaploy provided a solution that met the high expectations of the client and end user.
